Welcome Mary Marvella : Editing for Fun And Torture

mary

I have been writing fiction since 1991. I have a lot of books on my computer and hundreds of rejections.  Since I believed in my stories and my characters, I decided to publish some of them myself! (See the list at the bottom.) And I did! The learning curve for e-publishing was so steep I slid back down several times, injuring my generous backside and my pride. Eventually I will try the print-on-demand thing, but only  after I capture someone to sit with me, hold my hand, wipe my tears,  and DO IT FOR ME!

Recently, in a moment of insanity, I agreed to become an editor for a new e-publishing company, Gilded Dragonfly Books. https://gildeddragonflybooks.wordpress.com.  Since I write outside of the box, I want to find those delightful and engaging books New York publishers and other presses rejected because they don’t fit expectations.

I love women’s fiction stories with twists and unusual characters. I enjoy paranormal stories with ghosts, reincarnation, and everything but horror. Romantic suspense books must keep me wondering what will happen next and surprising me.

If you have a book you want to send me, I’d like to take a look. I’d like a synopsis and the first three chapters  or 50 pages. Send to mmarvellab@aol.com. The story needs to be sent as an attachment. Subject line should say submission to GDFB.

Who knows?  I might become your editor.

Now for Mary Marvella, author.

Haunting Refrain is my strange paranormal romance. It has ghosts and romance and mary titlereincarnation and no powers or shifters.

When Sarah Overby found ghosts in her attic she hesitated to tell her best friend, William McKeown. She didn’t think he’d understand. Telling him he lived a previous life as her husband would make him think she was crazy.

William has adored Sarah forever, he just doesn’t realize this isn’t the first time he loved her. His feelings for his best friend are changing, but he doesn’t believe in ghosts, reincarnation or lasting romantic relationships.

Love, Lust, and Sweet Tea.

Excerpt

Sarah stared into stormy gray eyes. Her hunger mirrored in them. “Walter?” she gasped. “Oh, God.”

 “What did you say?”

Sarah blinked, the gray eyes were still close enough to count the long lashes, but the face was William’s. Oh, of course it was William’s. Who else but William would be in her room, leaning over her bed, looking so concerned. Huh?

“William,” Her voice was rusty. “what are you doing in my room? Watching me sleep, were you?”

“Your parents have gone out and we had plans to do the same, remember?”

“You had to meet a client or patient, didn’t you?”

William stared at her. “That was last night.”

“Oh. What time is it, anyway?” Sarah looked at the clock.

 “Oops. I overslept.”

“Kind of.” William still looked concerned.

“I can be ready in twenty minutes, if you’ll get lost.”

 William still leaned over her.

“Anybody home?” She brushed the stray lock of dark hair that had fallen across his forehead.  His eyes darkened.

“You called me Walter,” he said. “Why?”

“I was dreaming and there was this strange guy who…” she trailed off. Suddenly her body burned with the memory of … What? William’s body was so close. His lips were so inviting.

Sarah reached her hands to capture William’s face. She pulled him closer and ran her tongue across his sensual bottom lip. She licked his upper lip, then gently nipped the center of his lower lip. She removed his glasses and pulled his face down to hers and kissed him.

Sarah needed this man’s mouth on hers. She’d needed them joined for so long she ached with the need. Her lungs were starved for his air. Her tongue slid into his mouth reveling in his taste.

About Mary Marvella

Mary has been a storyteller for as long as she can remember.  She made up stories for the other children and created the details for their “play like” or “let’s pretend” games. Sometimes the details were so real they scared Mary.

Mary was born in Augusta, Georgia to two eighteen-year olds. Her daddy, a young Mississippi man, was stationed at Camp Gordon and fell in love with a young girl selling flowers.

Mary graduated from Mercer University where her mama worked in the library. Now she tutors, teaches writers, and edits. Her inner English teacher loves the editing part.
